Passage 3

"Should we succeed in exposing the Holocaust and its spin-off industries, it will lay bare a criminal conspiracy of such parasitic nature and global reach involving entire nations, branches of governments etc. that it will cast dark shadows on some of the most revered public figures in America, Germany. Israel and elsewhere. That's why doubting Holocaust scholars and just ordinary revisionists are being so mercilessly persecuted around the world. "

Analysis

This passage is structured as cause+effect. The first sentence (the cause) asserts that those who assert the truth of the Holocaust are engaging in a criminal activity and moreover, this activity involves a widely ranging group of individual, nations, etc. The second sentence (the effect) states that a particular group, namely doubting Holocaust scholars and Revisionists are being persecuted. This sentence is a passive without an overt agent. Thus, by the given-new principle of information distribution, the implicit agent should be known or accessible to the reader from the overall context. In this instance, the agent is most relevantly the criminal Holocaust industry.

Thus, the writer explicitly states that the Holocaust industry is a criminal conspiracy (without evidence, violating quality) which is implicitly secret (since it can presumably potentially be exposed, and exposure implies secrecy). Moreover, the writer asserts that this same group is persecuting a group of revisionist scholars and Holocaust doubters, and that the reason for this is that the Holocaust industry must maintain its secrecy.

The expression Holocaust industry is, finally, a code term for Jews. Thus, the writer implies that Jews are engaged in criminal activity and are persecuting the revisionist scholars, thereby inviting the reader to single out Jews as an identifiable group and to treat them as a group with dislike and loathing, as is fitting for a group of criminals.

Passage 4

"This issue of the Holocaust has long, long ago ceased to be a matter of individual and collective Jewish suffering or of economic and human rights injustices done to some Jews over 50 years ago. It has become a quasi-criminal enterprise, an octopus-like industry with its own lobby, promoters, legal arm, public relations branch - even enforcers. "

Analysis

In the first sentence, the writer asserts that the Holocaust issue has ceased to be something (namely, a matter of individual and collective Jewish suffering or of economic and human rights

[Page 17]

injustices done to some Jews over 50 years ago). The fact that something has ceased to be implies that the something once existed. Thus, the first sentence of the passage implies that

"the Holocaust issue was once a matter of individual and collective Jewish suffering of economic and human rights injustices done to some Jews."

That is, the first sentence entails the truth of the Holocaust (as defined as a matter of individual and collective Jewish suffering of economic and human rights injustices done to some Jews). The use of some in this passage belittles the Jews and trivializes their complaints and concerns.

The second sentence refers again to the Holocaust issue (it takes as its antecedent the subject NP of the first sentence, namely This issue of the Holocaust) and asserts that it has become a criminal enterprise. Since This Issue of the Holocaust is an epithet for Jews in general, it implies that Jews are engaged in a criminal activity of considerable complexity (with its own lobby, etc.). Moreover, the expressions enterprise, octopus-like, and industry all invoke the industrial metaphor, again a code expression which can be linked to the Nazi bureaucratic; inhumane, and industrial approach to the Final Solution. Here, however, the reversal strategy is used so that now it is the Jews who are the bureaucratic inhumane industrialists, while the Germans are the victims.

Since the passage attributes negative and criminal properties to Jews, it invites the reader to despise and hate Jews as a group. Paradoxically, it also invites the reader to conclude that even if there were some truth to the Holocaust (now taken to mean the destruction of (some) Jews), the reader is still entitled to hate the Jews.

Passage 1

"The absence of a straitjacket that America enjoys when it comes to Freedom of Speech is the envy of the world. Will Americans yield and dance on the Zionist leash? We will see, I don 't think so "

Analysis

This passage uses the device of a rhetorical question in the second sentence. As is usually the case with such a rhetorical device [sic], there is an implicit presupposition without which the question makes no sense. In this instance it is that there exists a (metaphorical) Zionist leash, a controlling mechanism, by which a group, Zionists (Jews) influence and direct Americans. Without this presupposition being assumed, the question is senseless. Moreover, the use of the verbs yield and dance and the noun leash has important implications. The first, yield, takes as a part of its meaning that the entity affected (Americans, in this case) is giving up something

[Page 18]

against its will. The second. dance, is used metaphorically to suggest that the entity is performing at the behest of someone else, in this instance Zionists, and finally leash suggests a master-subordinate relationship in which the unwilling subordinate is the Americans and the master is Zionists.

Accordingly, the passage implicitly asserts that Zionists are attempting to control Americans, and since Zionists is an epithet for Jews, it suggests that Jews are manipulative and place themselves in a superordinate position. This image is of course reinforced elsewhere by the notion of the Jews as a chosen people.

Passage 2

"There are really only three enemies of freedom in Canada - and, for that matter, the world.

Enemy #1 is public apathy toward those who would curtail freedom of speech and self righteously censor people.

Enemy #2 is the Zionist Holocaust Promotion Lobby who terrorizes, brow beats and persecutes all true patriots into submission - people who differ with their version of history and who question or blow the whistle on their parasitic Holocaust extortion racket.

Enemy #3 are various career-seeking politicians who are intellectually lazy or who are too prejudiced (and maybe too beholden) to ever have thoroughly investigated both sides of this controversy. These are the government bureaucrats and law enforcement people individuals who curry favor, fame and fortune by doing the bidding of this powerful, ruthless, hypocritical Holocaust Promotion Lobby - all the while realizing full well what the actual facts are!"

Analysis

This passage asserts the existence of the Zionist Holocaust Promotion Lobby, an epithet for Jews, as a distinct group. The term Zionist is here again used interchangeably with Jews, an obviously incorrect direct association (since there can be Jews who are not Zionists and vice versa) The passage then associates with this group strongly negative attributes as reflected in the choice of negative expressions through the verbs terrorize, brow beat, persecute, the adjective parasitic, ruthless, hypocritical, and the nouns extortion and racket. The reader, observing the cooperative principle, would assume that evidence exists for these assertions, although none is offered here.

The use of the term controversy elevates Holocaust denial to a status on a parallel with the view that the Holocaust did exist, thereby attempting to provide a tone of scholarly acceptability to Holocaust denial.

[Page 19]

Another interesting aspect of this passage is its conspiracy theory content. It implies the existence of a well-defined Jewish group (the Zionist Holocaust Promotion Lobby) which is engaged in a deliberate. wide ranging, and focused activity, the goal of which is the illicit corruption of governments. In the resulting picture, Jews are painted as a world-wide, perverse, corrupting force, thereby inviting the reader to view them with loathing, abhorrence, and hatred.
