BONN (UPI) -- Police in eastern Germany Friday caught all nine
convicted ultra rightists who had managed a spectacular prison breakout
the previous night, a spokesman said.
The police spokesman said one of the nine turned himself in, while
tip-offs from citizens led to the arrests of the other eight.
A total of 14 prisoners tried to break out of a jail in the small
eastern German city of Schwarze Pumpe, in the Brandenburg state
Thursday. Two gave up the attempt as guards fired shots in the air and
three others were caught as they tried to scale the prison wall. Nine
others, aged 17 to 21, had managed to escape.
The spokesman described the nine as right-wing extremists and said
one of them was a 17-year-old neo-Nazi serving a nine-year sentence for
murdering a homeless person.
Three guards were slightly injured as they tried to stop the
breakout.
