I went one better when Orest Slepokura posted the sad tale of Moshe
Peer; I called Karen Seidman of the Gazette who actually wrote the
piece. There is no doubt that Peer claimed in a speech to a Jewish
gathering in Montreal to have been saved six times from the
non-existent Belsen gas chamber. Seidman reported to me that several
people who had heard the speech called after the article was published
to object that Peer could not be telling the truth.

Whether Peer is a liar or just a very crazy old man, I leave to the
speculations of others. I do not regard a single example of a crazy
old man or any collection of liars or crazy old men to be an adequate
basis for denying the historicity of the Holocaust. In any event which
occurred at thousands of locations, involved millions of people, and
whcih was spread across several years, cases such as Peer's are bound
to happen. Anyone who thinks that collecting such instances while
ignoring other kinds of evidence, has no conception of how history is
done.

For fairness' sake, one has to remember that he was 11-years-old
when liberated from the camp, which probably affected the accuracy
of his testimony.

suggested that documents about a "gas chamber" and "gassing cellar"
in the Birkenau crematoriums didn't count, as they were really due
to "a morbid sense of humor" of the SS men who authored the documents.
