Zundel Repost) quotes David Irving: > What the objectors took > exception to were some of my opinions as a historian - for example, I have > stated in public lectures that the "gas chamber" shown to visitors at the > former Auschwitz concentration camp is a fake built after the war. > Ironically, in > January 1995, the Polish authorities admitted that the "gas chamber" > building on show to visitors was indeed built in 1948. The reputable French > news magazine L'Express reported this admission on 26 January 1995 but > reputable historians have known it all along. Same old Irving lie. What L'Express reported (and what the truth is) is that the reconstruction of Krema I has a number of details wrong. "Tout y est faux" is the French. Even Holocaust-denier Mark Weber translated this correctly, "everything there is wrong." It goes on to explain what's wrong: the dimensions are inaccurate, the chimneys are in the wrong place, that kind of thing. David Irving, on the other hand, has consistently translated it "everything there is fake" or "everything there is a fraud." This adds an entirely new meaning, namely that the Auschwitz State Museum is attempting to put one over on everyone, that they are deliberately engaging in dishonesty. Well, you can judge for yourself who's using the dishonest tactics. Also, note Irving's claim that the Museum has "admitted" that Krema I was "built in 1948." Wrong again -- it was _rebuilt_ in 1948 to approximate its condition when it was being used as a gas chamber in 1941 or so. In the intervening years, after the main gas chambers were built, Krema I was no longer necessary and was turned into an air-raid shelter. After the war it was _rebuilt_ to look as it did previously. Again, saying it was _built_ after the war is something else entirely; again, the dishonest tactics. This is not an accidental slip of the tongue for Mr. Irving, either. His recent letter to the editor of the Sunday Times, his postcard that he urged supporters to send the German government, his 2GB radio interview, all say "fake" instead of "false," and "built" instead of "rebuilt." Now I have one more instance of Irving dishonesty to add to the list. Thank you, Ms. Rimland.
