"Dr. Rolf Rosenthal was a practical man. At one time there were two German
prisoners whith similar names in the revier; one died, but the death
certificate was sent by mistake to the family of the other. Rosenthal
calmly ordered his nurse to administer a deadly injection to the other one
-- and the problem was solved. He had an affair with his prisoner nurse
Gerda Quernheim (the one who drowned newborn babies in pails of water),
even performed an abortion on her; but when the affair was discovered, they
were both sent to the Bunker. Milena Jesenska, who died in Ravensbruck in
1944 after four years of unspeakable misery, discovered that the couple,
while trysting nights at the Revier, also killed women inmates and removed
their gold teeth or filings. (Buber-Neumann, Kafkova pritelkyne Milena, p.
212.)"
