1942

Martin Bormann ordered that the problem of eliminating
forever the millions of Jews from Greater German territory
could no longer be solved by emigration but only by the
application of "ruthless force" in special camps in the East
(3244-PS). (NCA II, 901)

1943

One hundred Jews are deported from Trieste to Auschwitz on
Yom Kippur, the Jewish Day of Atonement. (USHMM, 1993, p. 48)

The Germans establish a concentration camp, including a gas
chamber and crematoria, at La Risiera di San Sabba in the
business section of Tieste. Approximately three thousand
Jews and partisans are murdered there during the next
months. (Ibid.)

1944

Three thousand five hundred fifty Jews from Theresienstadt
arrive at Auschwitz. (USHMM, 1994, p. 63)

The Jewish Agency in Palestine is invited by the British to
cooperate in the suppression of terrorist acts by some
Jewish groups begun earlier in the year. While declining any
official cooperation, members of the Haganah are detailed to
"arrest" members of both the Irgun and the Lehi. (See March 28). (Ibid.)
