Police Regiment South reports shooting 1,548 Jews. (Browning, 17)

1944

Jews in the town of Sarmas in Transylvania are rounded up
and confined in a small ghetto by Hungarian authorities.
Their homes are pillages the next day. On September 17,
after being deprived of food and water, 126 Jews are beaten
and then executed by Hungarian gendarmes. The children are
buried alive with their parents. (USHMM 1994, 59)
