1938

Jews are required to carry special identification cards as of January
1, 1939. (Ruerup, 112)

1941

Wilhelm Keitel, Chief of the OKW, orders that German troops
should resort to terrorism in order to crush the
population's will in occupied Russia; the order held that
legal punishments were inadequate in so great an area. (NCA II, 533)

1942

An SS Unterscharfuehrer reports that his unit excavated new pits
near Minsk, for mass burials.

The gas chambers at Treblinka, an Aktion Reinhard death
camp, became operational. (Goldhagen, 157)
