1941

Troops from Police Battalions 316 and 322
participate in the execution of Jews in Bialystok. An
estimated 3000 were later estimated (by German courts) to
have been shot and killed. (Browning, 14)

1944

The chief secretary's office of the Government of Palestine
sends a letter, stamped "Secret," to David Ben-Gurion. The
letter outlined what the Allies knew of the Nazi
extermination program, noting that half of Hungary's 800,000
Jews had been deported to Birkenau, and that 1.5 million
European Jews had already been killed. (LeBor, 7)
