1940

The foundation was poured for a two-retort crematorium 
furnace at Auschwitz, according to the D-57253 furnace
blueprint, as ordered from Topf u. Soehne in Erfurt.
Prisoners poured the foundation. (Czech et al, p. 122)

1941

Several hundred Soviet POWs arrived at Auschwitz and were
housed in Block 11. They were employed digging sand from 
the gravel pits behind the camp kitchen and near the SS
sentry house. Within a few days, they had been murdered
while working. SS men shot them to death with small calibre
handguns and kapos beat them to death with shovels and
pickaxes. (Czech et al, p. 134)

1943

An amendment to the Reich Citizenship Law is promulgated,
declaring that Jews are no longer protected by the civil
courts. (USHMM 1993, 38)

The Thirteenth Ordinance under The Reich Citizen Law of 1
July 1943 (RGBI, 1943, Part I, p. 372), signed by Bormann,
completely excluded Jews from the ordinary courts and handed
them over to the exclusive jurisdiction of Himmler's police.

A German transport carrying two thousand Hungarian-Jewish
women prisoners to Buchenwald concentration camp is hit by
Allied bombs; 266 prisoners are killed. (USHMM 1994, 48)
