In revenge for the escape of a prisoner, Auschwitz Commandant
Hoess chose ten hostages from among prisoners in Block 2 and 
sentenced them to death by starvation in the "bunker" of 
Block 11. They were all pronounced dead when the "bunker" was
opened on June 30th. (Czech et al, p. 133)
