72 Polish political prisoners designated by the Politische
Abteilung were shot in the gravel pit near the so-called
Theatre Building at Auschwitz. (Czech et al, p. 130)
1943
In a fierce offensive, German forces re-enter Kharkov. Seven
hundred Kharkov Jews are murdered and twenty-three hundred
deported to Auschwitz. (USHMM 1993, p. 27)
