Newsgroups: alt.revisionism,soc.history,soc.culture.jewish,soc.culture.german From: kmcvay@nizkor.org.nospam Subject: Holocaust Calendar: February 18 Followup-To: alt.revisionism X-Remember: http://www.nizkor.org [Follow-ups set] February 18 1943 Two days after the German resistance movement, the White Rose, distributes underground anti-Nazi leaflets in Munich, the group's leaders, brother and sister Hans and Sophie Scholl, are arrested. They are tried, sentenced, and beheaded on February 22. (USHMM, 1993. Pg. 23) The "Teheran Children," Jewish children who had fled from Poland to Soviet Russia at the outbreak of war in 1939 -- only a few of them with parents -- and made their way to Iran via Siberia and Central Asia, arrive in British mandate Palestine via India. The group entering Palestine with British approval includes 860 children and 360 adults. (The five-week long roundabout trip from Teheran via India was the result of Iraq's refusal to permit the group to use the more direct route to Palestine.) (Ibid.) In a major address at the Berlin Sport Palace, Goebbels announces "total war for the defense of Europe against Bolshevism" and calls Jews "the root of evil in the world." (Ibid.)
