The firm of I.A. Topf and Sons, of Erfurt, sends a letter to
the Central Construction Office of the SS and Police, in
which the company acknowledges receipt of their order for
five triple furnaces, including two electric elevators for
raising corpses..." (LeBor, 32)

Ira Hirschmann is appointed as the War Refugee Board
representative in Turkey; his main assignment is to find
ships for the transport of Jews from Romanian ports to
