1944

Seven thousand three hundred two prisoners are registered at
Gusen, a subcamp of Mauthausen concentration camp. (USHMM,

A War Crimes Office is established within the office of the
Judge Advocate General of the U.S. Army to gather evidence
on war crimes. (Ibid.)

The head of the police in the Italian Social Republic (RSI)
announces to all prefects that the Italians will inform the
Germans that all Italian Jews captured will remain in
Italian concentration camps. However, this directive is
ineffective. (Ibid.)
