It was published by the Jewish Black Book Committee in 1946. On>page 396 it says: > > Four million Jews -- about two-thirds of the six million who perished in Europe at the hands of the Nazis -- were murdered at Oswiecim and > its subsidiary camps. > Oh, golly, Greg! You don't seem to have all four paws on the mouse today. You've selected one line out of context o make your point. I have a copy of the Black Book, too, and on the page you cite, the line you quote appears after: Careful Estimate of the number of Jews Gassed in Birkenau Between April 1942 and April 1944 (according to coutnries of origin) Poland aprox 900,000 Holland 100,000 Greece 45,000 France 150,000 Belgium 50,000 Germany 60,000 Yugoslavia, Italy, Norway 50,000 Lithuania 50,000 Bohemia, Moravia, Austria, Slovakia 30,000 Various foreign Jews concentrated in Poland 300,000 Total 1,765,000 Four million Jews--about two-thirds of the six-million who perished in Europe at the hands of the Nazis--weremurdered at Oswiecim and its subsidiary camps. Did you get that, Greg? Gassing victims (which, as I understand it is the part you question) number 1,765,000. Considering this number was developed in 1946, this is a pretty good estimate. It's not too far off >from the numbers Hilberg came up with later, for instance. The four million number, you'll note reflects ALL deaths in ALL camps and subsidiary camps at Osweicim. SInce there were about 1400 work and slave labor camps all over the place, this is not too far off the mark. -- Annie Alpert The Nizkor Project: Fighting hate and anti-Semitism on the Internet * * * On the web * * * WWW.Nizkor.org
