Archive/File: camps/auschwitz/victims/death-toll-nov-dec-42 Last-Modified: 1997/01/29 "In the twenty-three days between 12 November and 5 December, 2,000 prisoners were gassed, 461 sick inmates were killed with phenol injections, 25 were executed, 2 were shot 'in flight,' 1 was hanged, and 1 was tortured to death. Another 837 people died of 'natural causes' -- starvation, exhaustion, or a combination of both. This totaled 3,327 murdered human beings. The true situation was even more ghastly; these official statistics applied only to officially registered inmates. During the same twenty-three days, 13,000 people were sent immediately upon arrival to the gas chambers of bunkers 1 and 2 in Birkenau.<41>" (Dwork, p. 253) "41.
